MGM Grand – Las Vegas, Nevada

Travel Buddies, for Fourth of July weekend I went to Las Vegas and stayed at the MGM Grand with a newfound friend! How was it? Well wouldn’t you like to know!

🛎️ – Completely Unsatisfied

🛎️ 🛎️ – Needs More Work

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️  – Not Bad Could Be Better

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ – Satisfied and Enjoyable

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ – The Best AKA YASSSSS !!!!

Location🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

The MGM Grand is located directly on the Strip so it was super convenient to walk to other hotels, sight see and to get food. Another thing you should know about Las Vegas is that Uber and Lyft do not pick you up directly on the street, you have to go to a hotel’s rideshare location usually located in the parking lot, in order to get your Uber/Lyft. Because we were on the strip, we could easily go to any hotel parking lot and catch our car to any location.

Aesthetics🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️🛎️

Both the outside and inside of the hotel was amazing. One thing about Las Vegas hotels is that they’re not hotels, they’re resorts, so they’re HUGE! The casinos, the pools, the restaurants, some of them even have clubs so it’s really a lot to take in. However, everything is amazing, bright, and loud (in both color and sound) so it’s great for vlogging and photo-ops. Being that our room was on the sixteenth floor, it had a huge window with an amazing view so the lighting was perfect for selfies.

Cleanliness:🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️🛎️

The resort was spotless from the lobby to our double room. The pool had a lot of people which is why it was rimmed with cups and bottles which wasn’t an issue because it felt like a party.

Service:🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️🛎️

The service was great. We didn’t really call the front desk except to have more towels sent up but whenever we passed housekeeping, they always said good morning and good afternoon and was sure to ask if we needed anything. We ended up locking ourselves out and the guest services was happy to provide us with a new room key and directions to the club we were going to. We ate twice at the brunch buffet they had downstairs which was AMAZING and the staff was courteous, conversational, and can COOK!

Affordability:🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️🛎️

A lot of people tend to think that Las Vegas is expensive, but our room was very affordable for the space that they provided. If you look on any travel site or directly on the hotel’s website, you can find great deals and because Las Vegas can reach a high of 115 degrees and is pretty much party day and night, you don’t need a long stay anyway. Three or four days is more than enough.

OVERALL SCORE:🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️🛎️

This hotel averaged to five bells as I have no complaints! I had a great time and the stay was definitely memorable as I had an amazing partner to experience with! We did our best to beat the heat but the MGM Grand definitely made it worth it. I would love to stay at other hotels, just to see what it’s like but for a first time goer, I would strongly recommend the MGM Grand!

Sonesta Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square

Recently, I visited the Sonesta hotel in Philadelphia located in the Center City area. It was a solo travel adventure and I felt like I needed to get away as all the things that were going on in my life were piling up. As a go-hard wanderluster, I decided to document my travels in which I would give my honest opinion about the accommodations in hopes that it would inspire my readers to seek out an adventure on their own.

I have developed a legend for my travels:

🛎️ – Completely Unsatisfied

🛎️ 🛎️ – Needs More Work

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️  – Not Bad Could Be Better

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ – Satisfied and Enjoyable

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ – The Best AKA YASSSSS !!!!

Location: 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

The Sonesta Philadelphia in Rittenhouse is conveniently located at 1800 Market Street in Philadelphia, PA which makes it one of the best places for someone who is traveling, especially on a solo trip. Everything that you would need such as banks, late night food, shopping, etc is a quick two to eight-minute walk away which was a huge weight on my limbs and my pockets.

Aesthetics: 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

As far as the outside and inside of the hotel and the room, I really enjoyed it. I had a double bed with a couch and since it was only me, and it was considered a standard guest room, I believe that it was a nice setup. However, I am a huge fan of bathrooms and lighting and I feel that the tub was a little too small and the lighting was fairly dim and weirdly placed. Now, I may be a little biased due to me being an avid selfie lover and growing blogger; however, I believe that a lot of individuals would come on business ventures and for people who do blog/vlog, lighting is super important for photo/video purposes.

Cleanliness: 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

The hotel was spotless inside and out for the most part inside and out. The only issue that I had was there must’ve been a not so romantic evening as their was a huge red wine stain on the shower curtain in the bathroom.

Service: 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

The service was pretty good. When I checked in, I got a handwritten thank you note from the front desk staff and they always was sure to say good morning and good night as I was coming and going. As far as the housekeeping, I called to have the beds changed and made and clean towels and they came and dropped off towels and graciously cleaned the bathroom but my beds remained untended. Another thing that bugged me is that you cannot ride past the eighth floor in the elevator without your key card, therefore, if you are staying on a higher floor and you have a friend/family dropping buy, you have to go all the way downstairs to get them. Huge annoyance.

Affordability: 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

For the most part, Sonesta is a great place to stay but I would definitely considering booking this place during sale time on their website or through a third-party like or Expedia. Prices can range from 250+ a night and although it’s in a great spot, that still is a bit steep for my liking.

OVERALL SCORE: 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

This hotel averaged to four bells as it was a great stay and since I caught a great deal, it was pretty amazing. The overall pros were definitely the room layout and the location and the only cons I would say were the lighting placement and the key card/elevator hassle. Other than that, I’d recommend staying with this chain and I look forward to staying here again!

“Why I Stayed…” | I’m Finally A Published Author!

So I am an avid reader and I have been writing all my life and I am proud to say that I am now published on Amazon! I wrote a short book of poems and excerpts that follow some of the darkest and happiest times of life dating all the way back to middle school.

Writing is something that comes easy but also is very hard because I excel at fiction but i struggle with putting my real thoughts into post like these. When I make up characters and scenarios, the words just flow and the story kind of weaves itself. On the other hand, when I report my life in a more non-fiction way, I call it “real time writing,” my words tend to become convoluted and take on this start-stop feel in which I feel like I’m reading a first-draft.

In addition, I always love the art of performing as I grew up in church and I am a singer. I was a part of ‘Phenomenal Voices,’ a performing arts and community service group at SUNY University at Albany, and since then I fell in love with the idea of spoken word.

“Why I stayed…” really hits home for me because it is so personal and so raw; but that I know it will evoke strong emotions and hopefully bring back some of those happy memories for my audience. When writing this, it felt like fiction because of the use of metaphors and heavy symbolism and allowed me to really tap into those emotions without having to name names. I love to write fiction and I am currently working on a few novels that I hope to have done by the end of this year or early 2018.

I hope to turn “Why I Stayed…” into a series of about three or four books that fall into each other and allow people to see the real writer behind the great author I aspire to be. If you would like to support my work, you can add the kindle version or the paperback to your summer reading list!

Herring: Chapter Two – The Voice

Herring.” The Voice had a reprimanding tone as if he knew what she had planned. “Let me tell you something: I am not the one to be toyed with. As if you think I am dumb? I am so offended and I do not take offense well. She is your responsibility!” He paused and laughed to himself. “ Well, she was.”

The line went dead and the phone dropped out of her hand. Her eyes went glassy as hot tears formed over them. Her mouth hung open and her body stiffened and sunk her deeper into the seat. She didn’t realize what she had done or who she had dragged into her mess of a life. Chloe didn’t ask for this; she wanted a little bit of excitement, mystery, and now she was probably lying in some nameless first hole in a place her family would never find, alone.

She had to at least find her, maybe she was still in the house, maybe she was still fighting for her li- Suddenly she felt the wind being knocked out of her and millions of sharp stings across her face. She could feel her body become weightless as if she was suspended in water. She could hear a long horn and two thick yellow lines in the street. Then everything went dark.

“Excuse Me. Ma’am. Excuse Me.” Herring blinked twice and she saw a pale faced woman leaning over her. She looked impatient as if she had been waiting for Herring to wake up for hours.

“Um, yes? Where am I?” She tried to sit up but her body felt like as if she was a shattered glass vase and someone tried to glue her back together. “What happened?”

“You’re dead ma’am.” The lady, which now looked like a nurse pulled back the covered and started removing the bandages around Herring’s legs.

“I’m what?”

“Dead. You are not alive. You are dead. You were speeding down the road and got into a vicious accident and you were dead on arrival. We came, we picked you up, and now you are here because you are dead.”

Every word pinched her sides as she tried to make sense of how she was so alive if she was dead? This didn’t make sense, nothing made sense. She could feel every pain in her body; she could touch the soreness pulsing between her shoulder blades and the stiffness in her neck. She was not dead.

“Yes, you are.” The nurse sighed. “Listen honey, it’s hard to explain and even harder to understand, but it is okay. Your life was over and hopefully you will be more careful in the next one.”

The next one?

“Yes. You didn’t think you would stay here? There are too many people in the world dying and way too many people to be born in order for you to just stay here. You die. We Fix. And then we put you back.”

Nothing made sense as the nurse went behind her bed and started fiddling with these small latches on the side of her bed. Next thing you know she was being whisked down a pink hall, turned right onto a navy blue hall and then pushed through these double doors. Inside was a dome shaped room with a huge pool of clear water. The water was so still it almost looked like it was glass and she felt her covers being pulled back again, but this time by three other nurses along with the main nurse.

“What’s going on?”

“It’s time to go my dear.”

“Wha- go where? There’s nothing but water in here?”

“Exactly, that is ‘The Link’ it brings you back between this place and the world a lot of people depart so soon.” Her tone saddened ever so slightly before she perked up. “On three ladies.” Each of them positioned themselves at the corner of Herring’s bed and lifted her sheets cradling her broken body. Herring was in no position to fight back and she didn’t really know what else to say.

“I’m hurting and I won’t be able to survive on my own. There are people after me.”

The main nurse ignored her pleas while she began to blurt out instructions. “We will release you into the water and you will begin to sink. Do not fight it as you will not be able to move. Your immediate reaction will be to hold your breath and it is your choice to do so, however the water will not harm you or your lungs. It will feel like the same air you breathe; once you pass out from holding your breath or breathe in ‘The Link’ you will wake up in another body, another world, another life I do not have time for questions. Any questions?” The nurse’s smile did not match her sarcastic tone as she lowered Herring into the pool.

“I just got here,” Herring squeaked.

The nurse stared deep into her the eyes as if she was looking at a toddler. “Oh darling, it’s been seventeen weeks.” With that, all of the nurses let go and Herring began to sink and fast. She began to protest when the water rushed into her mouth and immediately turned into air. It felt cold and pure and then it went dark.

“Angela, honey.”

Now is your chance to tell us what happens next! Choose the next chapter or if you have something better, comment below, I might use it in my next chapter!

Refresh: The Get Back

Each day you get a fresh 24 hours to have a brand new start and turn your life in a different direction. Each day, you decide whether you want to be stuck in the same situation you were in yesterday or make changes to put you in a better position tomorrow. Each day you can make the conscious effort to be happy or just be. I decided to share with you all a few tips, mantras, or whatever you’d call it that I try and follow to keep myself out the dumps and in control.

  1. Not everyone has to be your friend: This is the opening statement of every speech you get from every black mom from middle school till eternity and I am now starting to realize that mama really knows best. Social media makes it a bit worse when all of the memes and Instagram pictures scream Squad Goals but not everyone is going to be in your squad. That doesn’t mean that you can’t keep them in your life but realize that in life you have your real friends and your party friends.
  2. Be your own cheerleader: If you have a passion, stick to it and believe in yourself. No one is going to support you like you. It’s hard to have something you’re super excited about and it doesn’t get the big name recognition you were hoping for. That’s life. What matters is that you keep going.
  3. Rest: OH MY GOSH, this is so important wow. Take a day off and just relax. Stop checking your emails, your notifications, your blog ratings, your listens on Soundcloud. Stop. Take a breath and do your laundry. Exfoliate. Binge watch TV shows on Netflix but please give yourself some rest. This will allow your brain to recuperate and that creative block you had all week will most likely subside and you’ll be flowing with ideas in no time.
  4.  MER (Month End Reviews): Trying to reach yearly goals are possible but intimidating. I have so many things that I want to achieve before 2017 ends but being in the beginning stages can be overwhelming and feel unattainable. I realized that breaking my goals down week by week and then rating my progress at the end of each month allowed me to see what I am doing right and what tools I need to work on.
  5. Rewards!: After completing your month end review, make sure you reward yourself for the small goals you completed. For example, I’m on the hunt for a new job. I rewarded myself for completing at least five applications per week. It doesn’t have to be huge rewards either. Maybe a trip to the movies, a trip to your favorite restaurant, or those shoes you’ve been eyeing in the mall. But make sure that you give yourself a constant reminder that you’re doing well.
  6. Consistency/Discipline: I feel this goes hand-in-hand. Be disciplined enough to be consistent. I am what you call a habitual procrastinator. If I tell myself I will start something at 5:30 and its 5:31 then I have to wait until tomorrow at 5:30. Setting a schedule whether it be for blogging, recording, designing etc. helps to start and maintain balance. Just like working out, if you keep to a strict schedule, you’ll start seeing results.

These easy steps along with your own personal adaptations are a sure way to help you create whatever visions you see in your head. Keep at it and remember in life, there’s always love!

Jamice…of course
